I started my own law firm in Johannesburg in 2007 and when I decided to move to the Netherlands in 2009, I continued to run the firm remotely travelling back to South Africa every 3 or 4 months.
Moving to the Netherlands was daunting and scary at the best of times but my training as a lawyer and my innate ability to make sense of (complicated) rules and regulations made my life a lot easier than that of many of my friends and acquaintances that moved here before me.
Over the years I became quite an expert at interpreting the Dutch immigration laws, as far as they relate to South Africans, and have often been asked to help friends and friends of friends to help navigate what most people will describe as a confusing maze of rules and regulations.
And so that, my dear cousin, is why I decided to start MyDutchCousin: To help South African expats navigate the maze of Dutch immigration law and to, through my South African office, assist South Africans in obtaining the civil certificates from Home Affairs that they require to satisfy the Dutch Immigration Authorities requirements.
